Download and installation
This week's brush collection is compressed using Stuffit from Aladdin Systems. The Stuffit Expander is a free utility for Macintosh, Linux, Windows and Solaris that can be downloaded here. Chances are you already have it on your system. If not, download and install it. You can also configure your browser to decompress files of the ".sit" type automatically using Expander.

Download: Nagel Series 1 Brush Styles (284 KB)[an error occurred while processing this directive]Once you download the brush file (NagelSeries1BrushStyles.sit), double-click the file to decompress it, or drag it over the Stuffit Expander application icon.

After the file is decompressed, you'll find a folder called NagelSeries1BrushStyles, which contains both the Style archive and the Textures folder. Place this wherever you'd like on your hard drive. Launch Fireworks, and then open up your Styles palette. Click on the flyaway menu at the top right, and select Import Styles.

After you select this, the styles will be loaded in your Styles palette. In Fireworks MX, you should be able to apply them to strokes immediately. In Fireworks MX 2004, I've found that you may (or may not) need to double-click each one and then hit "OK" in the dialog box that pops up. (While this dialog is open, you might want to edit any of the settings that are present.)

Once you apply a style to a stroke, all of the brush characteristics will be updated in the Properties palette. Choose "Stroke Options" from the pull-down menu in this palette.

If desired, make any changes, and then click the "New Brush" icon to add the brush permanently to your collection.

This will allow you in the future to apply these strokes without resorting to the Styles palette.

So that's all there is to it. Be sure to drop me a line or visit me in one of the forums listed below if you have any questions. And remember, you can find all of our previous downloads by visiting and sifting through our Features archive.
