SEPTEMBER 04, 2003 Alpha Channels in Synthetik Studio Artist 2.0
In some cases, altering these settings won't affect anything visibly. But with certain presets, you might want to finesse the settings to help produce better results, such as hard (or softer) edges, etc. It's not difficult to play around with these options and see what they do on your canvas, so I'm not going to cover what all the options mean here. Once you've made your changes, choose File > Export > Export Paint Patch, and save your new brush somewhere within a subfolder of your Presets directory.[an error occurred while processing this directive]Now, I also mentioned a potential workaround for the problem of using multiple layers for video output. The problem can be solved--in some cases--by changing your alpha output from "Layer Alpha" to "Blanking," and then giving your presets the appropriate Blanking settings. Here's how. First, go to File > Preferences > Movie Stream, and change your Out Alpha to "Blanking." ![]() Next, go into the Paint Synthesizer, select the Path Start parameter and change the Blanking setting from "Path" to "Path with Brush" (if it isn't already selected). ![]() Then, when you're done, save your preset as discussed above. The limitation with this option is that it doesn't work well with all brushes, particularly brushes that use low blend values, but it might help in some cases. Creating movies in Studio Artist and integrating with third-party apps All right, so now you have all of your settings right; you understand the limitations on layers; your brushes are all alpha-enabled; and you're ready to get to work. There are essentially three ways you can create movies in Studio Artist. First, you can have Studio Artist generate frames as you paint. I've gone into quite a bit of detail on this in previous tutorials, and I'm not going to repeat the process here. If you want to learn how to use this technique for creating paint-on/write-on effects (such as recording paint strokes as you spell out words), check out my most recent piece here.
