Cube Please
Creating a regular hexahedron in Adobe After Effects
by Ko Maruyama

Almost done
To gain a little more control, I'll need our Null.[an error occurred while processing this directive]The Null resides in the center of your comp, and the center of the face on Solid 1, but not in the center of the cube yet. We have to move the position of the Null back - you guessed it - half the distance of the solid on the Z-axis. Z Position=50

Now I can parent Solid 1 to the Null.

Controlling the Null attributes will now give you centered control on your cube. You can change your control to the edges of the cube by simply changing the Nulls position to the edge or corner point of your cube object.

Now go out there and write the Expression! (A review of AE's Java Compiler soon!)

Ko Maruyama is a freelance animator who remembers making cubes with math alone, but never thought he'd need Geometry or Algebra in real life. Thank you Mr. Bouchet and Brother Klar. When he's not counting on his fingers, you can find Ko hanging out in the AE Forum or lurking in the Visual Effects Forum. You can reach him at komaruyama@mac.com.
