Major upgrade worth the wait

Last year I finally cracked the Motion Tracker and Stabilization portion of After Effects and was cranking out many a motion-tracked file. But there were still some limitations. In After Effects 6.0, Adobe has revamped the Motion Tracker to make it easier to understand. Not only has the interface been improved, the entire tracking method has undergone improvements to make it faster and more accurate.

If you were afraid to track footage before, you will have much more fun with the improved version in AE6.0

Want new plug-ins? Adobe has those, too. The plug-ins that were part of the AE 5.5 Power Pack are now standard in the Professional version, and there are a few new ones in the package as well.

Liquify allows you to distort the image with brush controls much like Photoshop (see a pattern forming?). Some funky effects can be created with Liquify that could only previously be done with Mesh Warp. Since it is “brush” based, you don’t have to fuss with vector control points and the like. I like this plug-in, and even if you don’t use it a great deal for your pro work, you’ll probably use it when you need to relieve stress and need to Goo up images.
