JUNE 10, 2003 Digital Element Verdant 1.0
Fortunately, Verdant provides you with an option to arrange your elements in wireframe mode and preview the renders at two different qualities--one for a quick look at the geometry, another for viewing the results at a higher quality. There's also a preview button at the bottom of the interface that renders to a separate window. I recommend never touching this button, as the render times when using it are enormous (longer than the final render), and the process can't be cancelled. For workflow, Verdant allows you to save and load your own presets and create new categories for you to store your presets in. But it doesn't provide any undo capabilities, so, if you make a change you don't like, you have to reposition your elements manually.[an error occurred while processing this directive]Disappointments Performance is one issue with Verdant. But there is another, more important, issue that I think need to be addressed in a free update in the near future. This is the inconsistency in the plugin's render quality. Edges can be jaggy at times, and coloration can be cartoon-like, if you're not careful with your lighting. ![]() In the category of minor disappointments, I'd also like to see more variety in the trees and plants supplied with this plugin. Digital Element obviously wants to sell its customers additional models at an additional cost, but the base set of plants that come with Verdant should be more varied.
