Squeeze It
Sorenson Squeeze 3 a wonder for compression

Because I was so impressed with the speed of Sorenson Squeeze, I decided to do a comparison between it and Cleaner 6 on my Mac. I haven’t received the new version of Cleaner for PC just yet, or I would have done a comparison on that platform as well. To set up the test, I used the same 15-second clip from before, and made sure that the settings between both applications were the same even down to using the same Sorenson codec in both applications. How did this test turn out? Well, Squeeze cleaned Cleaner’s clock. In the speed tests, Cleaner 6 took 2 minutes 37 seconds to generate a 868K file, while Squeeze took a mere 1 minute 5 seconds to generate a 836K file.

A side by side comparison of Cleaner 6 and Squeeze 3. Both using the same Sorenson Video 3 Codec and settings. Click image for larger view.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]If you need to encode in a QuickTime, Flash, or MP4 format, Squeeze is by far the best choice for you. On the other hand, I should point out that Cleaner 6 does have many more codecs to choose from and might be more appropriate if you need to encode in more than four formats.

Bottom Line

Wow!

No really, wow!

Fast compression, great results, small file size. Sorenson Squeeze 3.1 (Mac) and 3.5 (PC) are the go to compression programs for any kind of high quality compression work. If you are streaming, you need this program. If you are compressing for DVD or for progressive downloads, you need this program. If you have the money (a mere $449 on sale now for $399), you need this program.
