Squeeze It
Sorenson Squeeze 3 a wonder for compression

When you are finished making your selections, all you need to do is press the Squeeze It button and Squeeze takes over. The compression times and amounts are pretty amazing for this product. I did a couple of tests with a 15 second clip from an Emergency Management video. The clip has normal movement and a variety of colors. The raw QuickTime file (captured with Final Cut Pro 3) was 57.5MB in size. I encoded on both the PC and the Mac in three different formats – Streaming QuickTime 300k, Progressive QuickTime Medium, and as an MP4 Medium file. On the PC side instead of the MP4 file I encoded a VCD Small file. The batch render results are as follows:

Faye (2.39GHz, 1GB RAM, Windows XP) total batch render time: 1:45[an error occurred while processing this directive]Nadia (Dual Gig Mac 1GB RAM, OS X) total batch render time: 2:20

Not too bad for the times considering two of the formats encoded were 2-Pass VBR formats.

The file sizes were also impressive. Remember, the original 15-second file was 57.5MB in size. Once compressed the files were much smaller:
Streaming QuickTime 300k – 652KB
QuickTime Medium – 860KB
MP4 – 884KB
VCD MPG – 2.61MB

The compressed results looked wonderful thanks to the Sorenson Video Codec.

If you select a SWF output file, Sorenson Squeeze gives you the option of attaching/creating your own Flash Player interface. There are about eight templates that come with the program, but you can easily create and use your own.

In addition to creating streaming on demand files for your websites, Sorenson Squeeze also comes with Vcast, the Sorenson live streaming service. Considering the costs involved with streaming live, Vcast seems to be pretty competitive and reasonable, and if you want to check out this aspect of the program you should probably visit the Sorenson site for more information.
