Weekly Download: Studio Artist Paint Patches, Series 5
30 additive and subtractive crayon brushes
by David Nagel

For our free weekly download, we return this time around to Synthetik Studio Artist with a collection of crayon-like Paint Patches. Unlike previous crayon collections we've posted, these ones use addition and subtraction as their blending modes to produce shading and highlighting effects, along with some other unusual characteristics.

Our collection this week includes 30 individual Paint Patches (or presets) for drawing with crayon-like strokes. But unlike traditional crayons, these ones build up (add) or tear down (subtract) luminosity as you build up your image, producing something like hot lighting effects (in the case of the additive brushes) and dark wash effects (in the case of the subtractive brushes).[an error occurred while processing this directive]Here's a sampling of some of the brushes in the NagelSeries5PaintPatches collection.

All of these Paint Patches are designed to be applied interactively and can adjusted using various input parameters, such as pen pressure and tilt. Of course, using Studio Artist's Paint Synthesizer, you can also go in and edit these to suit your needs more specifically.

Now go on to the next page for download and installation instructions. Or visit our archive to view all of our previous downloads for applications like Studio Artist, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, Creature House Expression and others.
