In case you're wondering, that takes up roughly the capacity of one of my processors on my dual 1 GHz G4. I still have plenty left over for working in Photoshop, playing games, checking my mail, browsing the Web (if I want to hog my bandwidth like that) and, as happens to be the case with me, writing up a review in a text editor. Here's the CPU usage with all of the aforementioned applications running at once while broadcasting with video, two video picture in picture effects and an overlay.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]That's a bit frivolous, of course, since you wouldn't be doing these kinds of things while you're broadcasting, but I wanted to show you the efficiency of this software.

Other new features include:

  • Visual positioning, which allows you to position footage by Command-clicking and dragging in a source window;
  • A "live now" feature, which allows you to make footage live without using the switcher;
  • New transitions;
  • Automatic mixdown of source audio when using voiceovers;
  • Audio volume saved for each source;
  • Ability to stop and start disk recording at any time for capturing only portions of a broadcast;
  • Support for Apple Events for controlling Live Channel from AppleScript;
  • Ability to arrange and open media files from the Finder;
  • Support for QuickTime 6.1.

So there's a lot new to this version. What's it like to work with this software?

Interface and workflow
Live Channel Pro 2.0 is quite amazing. It might look daunting at first, with windows all over the place and a vast number of sliders, buttons and data entry fields. But it's really quite simple once you know where things are. I'll just give you a quick runthrough.
