Set Three: 3D and Expressions in Adobe After Effects
This is a fairly short collection and only contains two DVDs; one that covers the 3D aspects of After Effects, and the other covering Expressions. The first disc introduces the 3D aspects of After Effects and does an excellent job of it. Over the years, I have found that those people that have a great grasp of 2D compositing, get totally lost when a third dimension including lights, cameras, and surfacing is introduced. [an error occurred while processing this directive]One of the other things I like about this entire series is how the material is presented. In the past, much of Total Training’s programs have used Mac screenshots exclusively. In the Total Training AE 5.5 series, Brian and Steve alternate between Windows XP and Mac interfaces to show the viewer that it doesn’t matter what platform you are on, AE functions the same way. As in previous Total Training products, all keyboard shortcuts still include both the Mac and PC key combinations.

When After Effects 5.0 was released, Adobe introduced expressions to the compositing world. While there are numerous web sites and reference materials available to learn expressions, I found that the Expressions DVD was very detailed and gave a clear explanation. I really enjoyed how expressions and 3D space can be tied together.

The concepts presented may cause the heads of beginners to spin and explode, so you may want to wait until you have completed the first two sets before jumping in to this one. Intermediate and Advanced users will love the material and may wear out their DVD players reviewing this disc.

Set Three comes on two DVDs and runs for $169.
