What it does and how it works
When you invoke Mask 3 Pro--either through the standard Filter menu or through the auxiliary Extensis menu that's added when you install the software--the filter launches into its own environment, zooming into you image at the maximum size available for your screen and displaying a Mask Pro tool palette, settings palette and "Keep" and "Drop" color palettes.[an error occurred while processing this directive]

As for the tools themselves, you've seen the Magic Brush in action to some extent. Like a regular paint brush in Photoshop, it can also be resized and have a soft edge applied to it using the new Tool Options palette. And you can adjust the threshold and threshold transition to narrow or widen the tolerance for colors being masked. But we've really only seen one aspect of the Magic Brush tool--its use as an automatic tool requiring little or not user input.

In large part, this aspect in itself is quite powerful and useful for a wide range of masking projects. And, at the very least, it's a good start for a masking job. But Mask Pro 3 also includes more refined tools for use in conjunction with the Magic Brush and other "Magic" tools. Some are old; some are new to this version.

Included in this set are two color selection tools for choosing colors to keep and colors to drop. This is particularly useful when you want to work with colors that may be too similar to one another for the plugin's automated functionality to deal with. To use these, you simply use the green "Keep" tool to click on the colors in your image you want to keep and the red "Drop" tool to select the specific colors you want to drop.

You can also use these tools to create multiple sets of keep/drop colors which can be activated and deactivated in the Keep and Drop palettes, seen above.
