Download and installation
This week's collection is compressed using Stuffit from Aladdin Systems. The Stuffit Expander is a free utility for Macintosh, Linux, Windows and Solaris that can be downloaded here. Chances are you already have it on your system. If not, download and install it. You can also configure your browser to decompress files of the ".sit" type automatically using Expander.

Download: Nagel Series 1 Illustrator Filters (372 KB)[an error occurred while processing this directive]As I mentioned, these effects are XML-based, stored in an SVG file. In order to install them, open up Illustrator, and choose Effects > SVG Filters > Import SVG Filter.

When the dialog box appears, choose NagelSeries1Filters.svg. The filters will then appear in your menu in the list of available SVG filters.

Keep in mind that you will have to import these filters each time you open a new document, unless you'd care to go to a little extra trouble. It's not a particularly difficult process to make these filters available continuously. Here's how it works. Within your Adobe Illustrator folder, locate the file called "Adobe SVG FIlters.svg." Open this in Illustrator. Now open the file "NagelSeries1Filters.svg," select all, copy and paste everything into the "Adobe SVG Filters.svg" file. Save it, close it and relaunch Illustrator. The effects will now be available for future use in all documents without further importing. (You must quit and relaunch Illustrator before this takes effect.)

Once you've installed these filters, you can apply them to any object within an Illustrator document by choosing them from the Effects > SVG Filters menu. If you wish to modify these effects, simply double-click the effect in the Appearance palette.

This will open up the SVG Filter Apply dialog box. Double-clicking the effect will open the editing window, and you can plug away with some experiments of your own.
