Part 1: Layer offset in After Effects
by Stephen Schleicher

Instead of spending a couple of days renumbering, I chose the simple solution.

Open Adobe After Effects and press Command+I on the Mac or Control+I on the PC to import footage. [an error occurred while processing this directive]Find the folder that contains all of your images (in my case it is a folder called SOHO images) and click on the Import Folder button. This not only imports all of the files in the folder, it also creates a folder (with the same name) in the Project Window.

Create a New Composition (Command+N on the Mac, Control+N on the PC) and setting the size accordingly. For this project, I went ahead and made a 1024 x 1024 composition using square pixels.

Open the folder that contains your image sequence in the Project Window and highlight all of the image beginning with image number 1 and ending with the last.

Drag these images from the Project Window to the Timeline and release. Except for a few images, everything should be in the correct order, with the first image at the top of the stack and the last image at the bottom. If you do end up with a few images out of order, simply select that layer and move it to the proper location.

Now the problem here is, anytime you bring an image into a composition that has already been created, the image duration defaults to the length of the comp.

We can fix this very quickly.
