FEBRUARY 27, 2003 Inside the Studio Artist Paint Synthesizer, Part 4
The numerical bank As for the spread itself, this is adjusted through a slider or numerical entry field located below the SpreadMod menu. Note that the slider value goes up only to 60, but you can manually enter values much higher than this. (This is the case with all of the sliders in this bank of numeric parameters.) Frankly, I don't know the upper limit, though it's probably too high to be useful.[an error occurred while processing this directive]But in order for your SpreadMod to have any effect on your strokes, you'll have to adjust the SpreadMod % value to something higher than zero. If you take it up to 100 percent, for example, you'll be able to adjust the spread from full to none. The examples below use a spread of 200 and a SpreadMod of 100 percent. The example on the left uses the Pressure modification, while the one on the right uses Inverse Pressure. ![]() With this particular preset, increased pressure causes the the stroke to thicken but for the pen tips to come together in the example on the left, while the opposite happens in the example on the right. The Spread Mod % can also be set to values higher than 100 percent so that your brush tips can criss-cross one another as you vary pressure (or tilt). You can also use "slop" to cause the nibs to stray from the path of your stroke. You adjust this using the Slop Amt (Slop amount) setting. The example blow shows (top to bottom) a slop value of 0, 200 and 999. ![]() Also located in the numerical bank of settings is a parameter called "# Nib." This, as should be obvious, allows you to set the specific number of nibs in your MultiPen brush. The default is 5. Keep in mind that the higher you go, the slower the brush will behave, although the whole thing is pretty manageable up to about 20, after which you can cozy up with a good book as your brush tries to catch up with your stroke path! (The performance decrease is especially evident when you combine a large number of nibs with a Path Orient AngleTrack.)
