Exploring MultiPen Mode parameters

The disadvantage of turing on Line Tracking is that is slows down the drawing of the stroke, particularly with large brush tips. The advantage is that it provides continuity for the individual nibs. (We'll have Line Track set to On for the rest of the examples.)

The Config parameter provides options for the placement of the individual nibs over the course of the stroke. Below you'll see the differences between the four options: (left to right) 1D Random; 2D Box Random; 1D Equal Space; and 2D Box 1D Space, 1D Random.[an error occurred while processing this directive]

So these settings affect the arrangement of the nibs, seemingly in 3D space, with individual tips overlapping others as the strokes curve in and out.

In addition to this, you can also change the track of the angle of the arrangement using the AngleTrack setting.Below you'll see the four available options: (left to right) Fixed, Path Orient, Tilt Orient and Source Orient.

Fixed is the default. Path Orient allows the nibs to arrange themselves according to the direction of your stroke. Tilt Orient allows you to use the Tilt sensitivity in a Wacom Intuos tablet to determine the angle, which means that you can adjust the arrangement of the tips interactively, even along a straight path. And Source Orient uses the orientation of your source image to adjust the angle of the tips. (If you don't know what the Orient of your image looks like, go tot he Background pull-down menu above your canvas, and select Orient. This will overwrite your canvas with an image representing the orientation of your source image.)

As with the angle of your brush tips, you can also adjust the spread of the tips interactively using the next parameter setting: SpreadMod. This is simply a group of four options that allow you to modify the numerical spread of your brush tips through pressure, inverse pressure and "TiltOrient PushPull." This last one applies to the tilt functionality of Wacom Intuos tablets. If you don't use a pressure-sensitive tablet, these won't apply to you. (And if you're not using one, you're missing out on most of what Studio Artist can do.)
