FEBRUARY 18, 2003 Final Cut Pro Quick Tip #16 This is a very specific Quick Tip for a very select audience. If you are using the Pinnacle Thunder XL and want to import and playback footage you created in Apple’s Final Cut Pro, then this one is for you. At the university I teach at, they recently upgraded their entire television control room that includes a Pinnacle Systems Thunder XL - a video server that can record programming, and more importantly, play it back over the school’s cable access channel. The Thunder XL is good, but it does have some problems importing footage created in other applications like Avid and Final Cut Pro. However, if you follow a few simple steps, you’ll have your FCP footage playing on your Thunder system as well.[an error occurred while processing this directive]The first thing I have noticed is you must render all of your effects before exporting. This includes any real-time effects that appear to play via Firewire or through your real-time capture card.  Highlight the sequence in the Bin window. The Thunder system does not want to recognize the file correctly if you export directly from the Timeline.  From the File menu, select Export>Quicktime.  With the Save menu now open, navigate to the directory where you want the saved file to reside (on this system, I have a folder called Thunder XL).  Currently, the Thunder XL does not support QuickTime movies, so you will have to save the file in AVI format. Make that selection from the Format dropdown menu.
