Download and installation
Patterns are fairly large files, which is the reason I've kept the collection this week limited to 20 individual patterns. (We'll have more of them in the coming weeks.) Owing to their size, I've had to compress them to get them down to a manageable 1.6 MB, which means you'll need to expand them using Stuffit Expander, which is a free download for Macintosh, Windows and other platforms. (If you're on a Macintosh, you already have Stuffit Expander installed.)[an error occurred while processing this directive]The file can be downloaded at: http://images.digitalmedianet.com/2003/01_jan/features/download14030124/NagelSeries1Patterns1-20.pat.sit

After you download the file, unstuff it and place the decompressed "NagelSeries1Patterns1-20.pat" file into your Photoshop patterns directory, located at Adobe Photoshop 7/Presets/Patterns. Launch Photoshop, and then choose Edit > Preset Manager. By default, the Preset Manager opens up with your Brushes presets. Just switch the top pull-down menu to "Patterns." Then, select the flyaway menu on the right, and choose NagelSeries1Patterns1-20 from the list.

If you don't see this on the list, you can also simply click the "Load" button and locate the pattern file on your hard drive manually.

To use the patterns, you can apply a fill layer using the Pattern option or incorporate the pattern into your Layer Styles using the Pattern Overlay option. If you have any further questions, be sure to visit me in the Adobe Photoshop forum here at DMN, listed below.
