But these are just the new and improved features. And when I say "improved," I mean improved over a previous generation PowerBook that wasn't much of a slouch itself. The PowerBook's processor has 1 MB level-3 DDR cache (the same amount as two of the desktop configurations). The machine runs on a 133 MHz system bus. It's equipped with a 60 GB Ultra ATA/66 drive. It has an 802.11b (AirPort) wireless card and 56 Kbps modem built in.

And it comes loaded with a wealth of applications for productivity and creative production found only on the Macintosh platform: iDVD, iMovie, iCal, iTunes, iChat, iPhoto and all of the exclusive technologies built into Mac OS X that make for the truly great user experience Apple is famous for providing.[an error occurred while processing this directive]On the outside
Everything new on the latest PowerBook is on the inside--the SuperDrive, the Radeon 9000 and the 1 GHz G4 processor. On the outside, of course, is Apple's fabulous design--a super-thin titanium shell, 15.2-inch widescreen LCD display, responsive (and tappable) trackpad and removable keyboard. Actually, I find the PowerBook's keyboard, though small, to be much more responsive than the Apple Pro Keyboards that come with desktop Macs. And it's easily removable with the slide of a couple of tabs for accessing the machine's memory expansion slots.

As for the display, it offers a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 854 and various lower 3:2 and 4:3 resolutions. At maximum resolution and brightness, it's quite easy on the eyes, though I do have a few qualms about it, which I'll get to below.

When you return to your desk, the PowerBook can easily connect to an external LCD or CRT display, which can be used for mirroring or in an expanded desktop configuration. External displays connect up through the built-in DVI port, and Apple includes a DVI to VGA adapter for connecting to non-LCD displays.

Which brings up another important set of features on the PowerBook: its port configurations. The stock PowerBook G4 includes 10/100/1,000Base-T Ethernet (something most desktop computers in the world don't even have yet); one FireWire port for capturing digital video (or even for booting the PowerBook as an external FireWire drive); two USB ports; S-video out; audio in and out (minijack); and a PC Card slot for expansion. Could you want anything more in a notebook computer?
