NOVEMBER 20, 2002 Cleaner Direct In addition to the many improvements discreet has made to cleaner 6, one of the nice new features is the ability to have cleaner automatically upload your streaming file after it has been encoded. When you have set up the streaming settings for your clip in the batch window, double click the destination column to open the Destinations Panel. [an error occurred while processing this directive] ![]() Click on the FTP Server radio button to let cleaner know you want to send the encoded file to your streaming server. If you have not already added the FTP information, click on the Add button. ![]() This will open the custom dialogue box to enter the FTP information you need. This is the streaming server, not your regular server; cleaner 6 will only upload the streaming file, not the html code. ![]() With the information entered correctly, press the OK button. In the last area, create a custom name for the encoded file. Make sure you are entering the correct extension or it could cause errors on the remote site. ![]() Click the OK panel to exit the Destinations Panel, and press the Play button to begin the encoding process. When the encoding is done, cleaner 6 will begin uploading the file to the ftp directory. There are a few drawbacks in the current new release. The first is that cleaner 6 does not tell you if you have entered the wrong password information, nor does it inform you if you having log in troubles. The second issue you need to be aware of is not a problem with the FTP direct option, but rather the Mac OS as it relates to cleaner. Many people are still encoding in Real format. While cleaner 6 support Real encoding, it only works currently under Mac OS 9. Other than those two issues, the FTP direct upload works very well, and saves you a great deal of time from having to manually move the files yourself.
