Flash MX and server technologies
As with Fireworks, Flash gains a tremendous degree of integration with Director MX. You can import SWF files into Director MX as cast members, with the ability to view Flash properties within the Property inspector and make basic modifications within Director's own Flash Options window. Or you can also double-click the cast member to go into Flash MX for editing.

Click the Done button, and you're done.

But well beyond these basic capabilities, Director MX also adds Lingo control over Flash MX ActionScript objects. With any Flash MX object, you can get and set and property or create new objects using Lingo code. Director MX also adds library behaviors for Flash objects.

And on the server side, Director gains all of Flash MX's remoting and server capabilities. This includes access to the Flash Communication Server MX to access USB or FireWire cameras and microphones, calling up Flash MX's XML socket object for getting and putting to XML data streams, etc. And, when you create new Flash objects through Lingo, you can gain access to these features without the need to go through a Flash MX file.

For remoting, Director MX gains the ability to connect to databases and Web services through ColdFusion MX, Java, SOAP-based services and Microsoft .NET. (I've not yet had the opportunity to test out this functionality. We'll cover it in more depth in our formal review after the commercial version of Director MX has been released.)

In all, Director MX is a serious win for those looking to couple the power of these two technologies.
