NOVEMBER 25, 2002 First Look: Macromedia Director MX
And with non-Macromedia external editors, the integration is almost as impressive. Double-click the cast member on the stage (or click the Edit button from the Property Inspector), and you're inside Photoshop or any other external application, such as Discreet Cleaner for QuickTime movies, Pro Tools for Audio, etc. Make any changes, save and click the Done button to see the cast member instantly updated.

Similarly, you can also use Fireworks for compression of images used in Director. I've pointed out in the past that nothing compresses JPEGs as well as Fireworks, and now this functionality is integrated with Director. One click on the Optimize button in the Bitmap property inspector launches directly into Fireworks' optimization mode.
But that's not all. Director also imports native Fireworks PNG files and includes a Fireworks MX Import Xtra. The Xtra allows you to export layers as cast member, export buttons and rollovers (with each image as a separate cast member and with correct positioning on the stage) and export remote rollovers. It also integrates JavaScript behaviors from Fireworks MX and allows you to edit them as native Director behaviors. But what about Flash? If you're a Flash developer who wants to add the power of Director to your work, or if you're a Director developer looking to take advantage of the types of graphics possible with Flash MX, this is the release of Director you've been waiting for.
