Creating Photomosaics in Studio Artist

Generating the photomosaic
You're done with the setup, so now al you need to do is render it out. For both still images and movie files, the effect works best on large source images. But this is more important with stills, where you don't have the aid of motion to help viewers see what's going on. [an error occurred while processing this directive] For a still image, choose File > New Source Image and Canvas. Choose your source image (the one that will be turned into a mosaic). ake it large. Remember, Studio Artist is resolution-independent, so you can scale up smaller source files with no problem.

After you've opened your new canvas and source image, simply click the Action button, or brush your mosaic on with your mouse or pen. You're done.

The bottom image shows a detail of the top poster-sized photomosaic.

For video, you're going to need to perform a couple extra steps. Open up a new source image and canvas, and choose the movie file that you plan to create this effect on. Now open up the Paint Action Sequence window (Action > Paint Action Sequence Window), and erase the PASeq that's already there. Click the Record button, and record these two steps:

1. Set the canvas background to white (even if it's already white).

2. Press the Action button, and let the preset fill the entire canvas. When it's done, hit the spacebar to stop it.

Those are the two steps. When you're done, uncheck the Record button, and then choose Action > Process Movie File With Paint Action Sequence > To Movie. Studio Artist will then ask you to pick your source movie again and name the output file and set the output dimensions.

That's all there is to it. If you have any further questions, be sure to visit us at the Studio Artist forum at http://www.wwug.com/forums/studio-artist/index.htm.
