Macromedia Fireworks MX
Image editing and effects suite for print and Web

The bottom line
I count Fireworks among the most valuable graphics tools on my computer. I use it in conjunction with Photoshop 7, though it can certainly stand on its own as an image editor, vector art and animation program and Web graphics tool. While it still doesn't have all of the image editing capabilities of Photoshop (such as Photoshop's new Healing Brush), it does cost half the price. I give Fireworks MX a Strong Buy recommendation as both an upgrade and straight purchase. [an error occurred while processing this directive] Macromedia Fireworks MX is available for Mac and Windows, including Mac OS X, for $299. Upgrades run $149. Fireworks MX is also available as a part of the Studio X bundle, which includes Fireworks MX, Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX and Freehand 10, all of which now run on Mac OS X, Mac OS 8/9 and Windows. Studio MX runs a scant $799 and is well worth the investment, if you're looking for a complete Web design and site management suite. For more information, visit http://www.macromedia.com.
