JULY 12, 2002 Digital Anarchy Color Theory Pro 1.5
Formulas can be selected from a pull-down menu just above the RYB color wheel. The new 1.5 version includes a set of 26 pre-defined formulas for creating color schemes. (The previous version included 18.) These range from monochromatic (light red with dark red, for example) all the way up to variations on six-color chords.

In the above example of the interface, you see the colors displayed in a bull's eye pattern. But you can select from 22 patterns for displaying the colors to suit your tastes. And you can choose to show or not show your source image in the window.
Voila! You now have a precise, harmonious color scheme for creating logos, text over images or even simply source colors for color mapping images. But it doesn't end there. Just because colors are precisely harmonious doesn't mean you'd like to use those exact colors in a composition. For example, the exact complement to dark red is dark green, which may look too muddy. So once you've generated a precise color scheme, you can then go in and edit the individual colors. You can limit one of the colors to light and the other to dark. You can manually move the points on the color wheel to get the exact complement you want. Or you can adjust the lightness and saturation of the colors until you arrive at something pleasing to the eye.
And no matter which method you choose, the result will still be a harmonious color scheme. The images below show a simple red-green complement set before and after editing.
If, after all of this, you still don't like your color scheme, you can move around all of the points on the color wheel at the same time to generate new input values.
