Boris FX Offers Free Cartooner Filter
Plugin supports After Effects, Final Cut Pro

by David Nagel

Boris FX has released its Cartooner filter for free. Cartooner is one of 80 filters included with the Continuum Complete filter set for Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro.

Cartooner, as its name implies, takes a video source and converts it into something resembling cartoon outlines. Edges can be stroked, colorized, expanded or contracted, and the filter can manipulate the outlined of the source alpha. Cartooner (and the rest of the Continuum Complete package) supports Mac OS 9 and OS X, as well as Windows. It works with Final Cut Pro 3.0 or higher and After Effects 5.0 or higher. [an error occurred while processing this directive] The full Continuum Complete package includes 80 filters and adds a anumber of functionality and effects enhancements to AE and FCP. These include new apply modes, the ability to mix apply modes in a single layer, advanced animation tools and new ways of managing multi-layer compositions. It also provides a Z Space compositing filter so that each layer has full 3D rotation capabilities with global 3D capabilities for hierarchical animation. Users can intersect layers in 3D space with soft cast shadows, 3D spotlights and motion blur. Continuum Complete sells for $695 for the full version. Users of the original Continuum and Boris AE can upgrade for $199.
