OCTOBER 18, 2001 Installing the Pioneer DVR-A03 on a G4
Oh, the nice engineers at Apple... How much cooler can they be? The drive assembly is totally shielded to avoid interference. This helps to keep your audio and video very clean. I wish most PC manufacturers did the same thing. In order to make the shielding perfect, an adhesive metallic strip grounds the main connector to the drive assembly. Carefully lift this strip because you'll reuse it later. Once it has been completely lifted, pull the large drive connector by the white tab and the small drive connector by the plastic connector itself. The assembly should now be free and you can pull it entirely out. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
Turn the drive assembly upside down and you'll see four screws holding the original drive in place. Use the same Phillips screwdriver to remove them. The picture only shows two of the screws. The other two, obviously, are located on the other side. Once the screws have been removed, pull the original drive out of the metal enclosure.
The original drive is configured as "master" by Apple and you should make sure that the A03 is, too. Just look at the back of the drive. If the jumper is in the same position as in the picture, you are ready to go. Otherwise, just configure the jumper like so.
Here's where my mistakes can save you time. When I first inserted the A03 in the drive enclosure, it wouldn't fit. So I tried over and over until I looked at the metal cover at the rear of the enclosure. It must have slid in when I wasn't looking. I swear I didn't touch it! Honest!
