Waves To Release Audio Restoration Tools
Plugins remove background noise and signal transients
by
David Nagel Executive Producer
Waves Ltd. will release a new set of Native plugins for the Macintosh next month. The software is geared toward the removal of unwanted background noise and signal transients without affecting the original sound.
The Restoration bundle includes four new plugins: X-Noise, X-Click, X-Crackle and X-Hum, all based on technology licensed from Algorithmix GmbH. We haven't seen the product yet, but, according to the company, here's what each of the plugins does:- X-Noise learns from a section of noise and then applies a broadband noise reduction to eliminate background noise.
- X-Click removes clicks from 78s or vinyl records, as well as spikes arising from digital switching or crosstalk.
- X-Crackle eliminates crackles and surface noise left after the X-Click process.
- X-Hum attenuates steady pitched low frequency disturbances, such as ground loop hum and its harmonics. It is also intended to reduce the rumbles, microphone pops and DC-offset.
The Restoration tools will be available in October for $1,200. For more information, visit http://www.waves.com.
