by
David Nagel Executive Producer
Wacom says it will ship a new LCD pressure-sensitive tablet next month. The Cintiq 15X will be the first pressure-sensitive tablet with a built-in LCD display to retal for less than $2,000. It succeeds the PL500, Wacom's previous LCD pen tablet system.
The Cintiq 15X includes a 15-inch LCD monitor that offers 24-bit color and twice the pressure sensitivity of the PL500 (512 levels). It's also designed to reduce the parallax that occurs when drawing directly onto an LCD screen. Other features and improvements include:- Reduced pen starting force, which offers greater pen sensitivity and enhances the 512 levels of pressure.
- Analog and DVI connectors.
- USB or Serial Tablet Interface Connection.
- 35 percent increase in brightness over previous interactive pen displays.
- 160 degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle.
- ICC profile included, with the option to purchase a photospectrometer for custom profiles.
- 1,024 x 768 pixel resolution.
The Wacom Cintiq 15X will be available next month for $1,899. It supports Macintosh and Windows out of the box, with an optional $149 kit for SGI Irix and Sun Solaris systems. For more information, visit http://www.wacom.com.
