David Nagel You know, you can't really win when you write for a large audience. Even your own humble editormewill often find difficult going when I stray from the path of nonsensical Microsoft bashing and move into the unmapped territory of thoughtful analysis of the Macintosh platform. "What do you mean, Dave?" you query. Well, I mean that whenever I try to tell it like it isyou know, capital-T Truthmy beloved readers come at me from all angles. "Us? No way, Dave. We love you. Creative Mac hasn't even been around for a year and a half, and you've already changed the way we work and live our lives. Certainly we would not go all crazy and hurl stupid insults at you like some senseless mob of peecee users. Not us. Not at you, Dave." Believe it or not, it happens, dear reader. For example, my last three columns have been on the topic of OS X. The first one blasted its lack of support for all the things we all now know it doesn't support. "You wrote that? You are an ass. Why don't you go buy yourself a Compaq and shut up." See? That's what I'm talking about. "What?" Well, anyway, the next two columns were about how OS X is wonderful "Wonderful? It doesn't even have driver support for any peripherals I use professionally. You're not suggesting I actually upgrade my professional system, are you?" despite its lack of peripheral support and virtual lack of professional applications. "Another criticism from the ass, huh? Can't you media types ever focus on the positive? It's all tragedy and criticism and liberal media hype." But I'm a libertarian.... "Gun nut, huh? Look, bub, you have problems. It's people like you who make the world a dangerous place to live in. You ass." That didn't even make sense, reader. Look, I was just prefacing a few comments I wanted to make about my continued use of OS X. You know, I've been using it every day since it came outprofessionally. "Tread warily, Nagel...." Fine. I've been using it professionally for more than two weeks now, eight hours a day minus smoke breaks, and I still have yet to crash that thing. Frankly, that's a new feeling for me. "Don't go there...." Just quiet down for a minute and let me have my say. All right? Maybe I am an ass, but this ass is going to make some noise! Post a comment or question
