Yamaha To Ship 16x FireWire CD-RW
Mac drive rips audio CDs at 40x
Yamaha today announced its new CRW2100FXZ, a FireWire CD-RW drive that writes at 16x, rewrites at 10x and reads at 40x. The drive is compatible out of the box with FireWire-equipped Macs and is expected to ship this month.
Designed for audio work, the drive can rip audio CDs at 40x—about 74 minutes of audio in fewer than three minutes. It also includes software for accessing, purchasing or downloading music from the Web.
Yamaha developed the CRW2100 Series to take advantage of partial Constant Angular Velocity (CAV) technology, a combination of CAV and standard Constant Linear Velocity (CLV). To rewrite a CD-RW disc at up to 10x speed, the LightSpeed recorders use the full CAV recording method. This method keeps the disc rotation speed constant while adjusting the data transfer rate, depending upon the portion of the disc being recorded.
The drive ships with Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Direct CD and Toast (for
Macintosh); Adobe's ActiveShare and Photo Deluxe; and the Neato CD Labeler
Kit. It will sell for $399.99. For more information, visit http://www.yamaha.com.
