Mac Gets 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel RAID
Chaparral ships A8526 controller
Chaparral Network Storage today started shipping its A8526 Fibre-Channel RAID controllers, which now sport a speed of 2 gigabits per second. The new controllers are based on a new technology from JNI in the form of the Emerald IV chip, which is designed to run on the Mac and other platforms.
Chaparral says the new controller, which delivers 400 MB per second transfer rates in full-duplex modes running in 66 MHz, 64-bit PCI host interfaces, is designed for video and audio applications, as well as storage area networks.
Other features include LUN zoning and array partitioning; inband management over Fibre Channel and out of band over an RS232 serial interface; SNMP support for monitoring applications via the newly designed Ethernet interface; and 1U rack mount design.
Although the A8526 controllers started shipoping today, according to Chaparral,
no pricing information was available at press time. For more information,
