Initio Corp. has introduced its new iConn external FireWire to SCSI adapter. The company says the new device enables UltraSCSI connectivity in FireWire-equipped Macs and PCs with throughput about 10 times faster than USB to SCSI adapters. It allows UltraSCSI and FireWire peripherals to connect simultaneously with up to 20 MB per second throughput.

The new adapter measures 2.5" (W) x 2.75" (L) x 0.75" (H) and features one 50-pin UltraSCSI connector and two FireWire ports. Peripherals can be daisy-chained just as they are when connected to a computer's SCSI port. FireWire peripherals can also be daisy-chained.

Other features include:

  • Supports synchronized transfer, disconnection/reconnection
  • Includes active UltraSCSI terminator
  • Supports SBP2 ORB/CDB command set
  • Compatible with Adaptec Toast Deluxe 4.1.1 or later.

Initio will demonstrate the iConn adapter at the Macworld Expo this week. It will sell for $99.99. For more information, visit http://www.initio.com.
